Modern Dance

Grades 3rd - 5th

TUESDAYS 5:45 - 6:40 p.m.  | Ms. Jordan & Ms. Jennie
LOCATION: McAllister Center, Lafayette

In this class, older students can discover why the early ballerina's broke free from Ballet's precise movement, took off their ballet shoes, and created a brand new style that was outside the Ballet rules! They will learn the free-flowing and expressive style of Modern dance through center floor exercises that also incorporate choreography on the floor like rolls and slides. Modern dance is athletic, artistic, and unique! No shoes needed for this class as Modern dancers are famous for dancing completely barefooted! Students can enjoy the fun rhythms of drum music, peaceful instrumental, and upbeat contemporary music. Class time will also include activities that develop the skill of improvisation (allowing dancers to create their own movements), which builds self-assurance and develops a well-rounded dancer.

**Our Fall semester will also include occasional events such as “Dance & Lit Days”, using a book or poem to ignite inspiration, and “World Dance Days” when we explore a dance from another country at the end of class.**
