DANCE Director, Founder
Jamie West holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida where she studied ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, lighting and costume design, kinesiology and anatomy, dance history, teaching methods, and choreography. Native to Indiana, her early training was with the White River Ballet Company in central Indiana, the Jordan Academy of Dance at Butler University, and summer dance intensives with Ballet Magnificat Dance Company in Jackson, Mississippi. Ms. West has had the honor to work with artists from Doris Humphrey’s Dennis St. James Dance Company, the Appalachian Ballet Company, and the Suzanne Farrell Ballet Company. She has performed the principal pas de deuxs from The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Giselle. Her contemporary training has been shaped by the Laban contemporary technique of the Laban Center in London studying under Christina Teague-Mann.
Internationally, she has performed and instructed at the Festival for the Arts in Goianna, Brazil, and also was a guest instructor in Santiago, Dominican Republic. In Peterhead, Scotland she performed and taught dance and drama classes at primary and secondary schools, as well as in Montserrat of the Caribbean islands. Throughout her many years of teaching experience she has taught in studios, churches, community outreaches at children’s homes, as well as held kids dance camps in Florida, Missouri, and Indiana. Jamie is a certified Pilates instructor, beginning her training under Tracy Anderson, celebrity personal trainer to actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
In 2009, Jamie opened WEST ACTIVE in Lafayette to offer kids an encouraging, non-competitive dance environment. In most recent years, Ms. West also founded and directed a local performing dance company for adults called “RECKLESS”, which offered the community more opportunities to embrace the live dance experience. Most importantly, she is a wife and a Mommy.
